Woman fears her cats were poisoned

A RESIDENT of Sean O’Byrne Park in Gorey has appealed for witnesses, and has issued a warning to other cat owners in the area, after five of her cats were apparently poisoned at her home.

Devastated Dolores Doyle said that her three kittens died, while the two older cats survived the incident.

She said they were in her back garden on Friday, December 2, when, she believes, poisoned food was thrown over the wall. They were found in distress at around midday.

‘One of the kittens died before we could get it to the vet,’ she said. ‘We brought the other four to the vet, and two of them died while they were there. The two that survived were a year old.’

She said that some of her cats were also poisoned two years ago, but never like this where they were all poisoned at the same time.

‘The vet said one of them got a horrific death,’ she said. ‘They originally were going to put all four down, but they managed to save two.’

She believes they were poisoned in the garden, as the kittens were too small to get out. ‘Something must have been thrown in,’ she suggested. She hopes someone may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area. ‘It was a horrific death for any animal,’ said Dolores. ‘I just want to issue a warning to all cat owners to watch out, and to be aware that this could happen.’
