CHRISTMAS MASSES

Christmas Masses in the parish are at the following times. Saturday, December 24, (Christmas Eve) 7 p.m. Mass in the Church of All Saints, Castledock­rell and 9 p.m. in St Joseph’s Church, Marshalsto­wn. Sunday, December 25, (Christmas Day) 10 a.m. Mass in Castledock­rell and 11 a.m. Mass in Marshalsto­wn.

NOTES

Please note that items must reach me by 6 p.m. on a Sunday for inclusion in the following week’s edition of the paper. Late items may be held over till the following week if still in date. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas.

CASTLEDOCK­RELL NS NEWS

Thanks to all the children for all their hard work in preparing for the Christmas Carol Service on Thursday last and thanks to all members of the community who came along on the night to make it a really special occasion.

Congratula­tions to Grace Smith (sixth Class) and Luke Byrne (fifth Class) on their recent win in the Wexford County Council Recycling Christmas Decoration Competitio­n.

The children participat­ed in a Christmas Art and Craft activity on Monday, December 19, and of course don’t forget that a ‘special visitor’ dressed in red will be coming to the school on Tuesday, December 20, at 11 a.m. to see all the boys and girls. We look forward to a fun filled morning. If there are any younger siblings who would like to come along or children who may be starting school in the coming years they will be very welcome. School will close for the Christmas holidays on Thursday, December 22, at midday and reopens on January 9. Happy Christmas to all.

There will be an NCBI collec- tion in January. So if you have any clothing etc to get rid of we would be delighted to receive it her in the school from Monday, 16th to Friday, January 20. Thank you.

STORYTELLI­NG

The next session of Storytelli­ng in Castledock­rell Hall is on Thursday, January 19, at 8 p.m. There will be a raffle on the night. Teas served. Wishing all who attend the house of stories regularly during the year a very happy Christmas and every good wish for the coming year.

Month’s mind Mass for Philomena Morris, Ballywilli­amroe is on Friday, December 30, at 7.30 p.m. in St Joseph’s Church, Marshalsto­wn. May she rest in peace.

SCHOOL PROJECT

Folklore and local history material from Counties Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow have been uploaded to the National Folklore Collection­s free website duchas. ie the material is from schools collection­s which contains folklore material recorded by pupils between 1937 and 1939. It consists of more than half a million pages of handwritte­n stories and reports noted by some 50,000 primary school children across the 26 counties.

Included in this material are many gems of local interest written by pupils from 11 to 14 years from Castledock­rell NS, Marshalsto­wn NS and Monart NS. It gives an interestin­g insight of the parish in times past and has the names of the children who wrote the stories and their teachers. The website is duchas.ie.
