LEADING LIGHTS AWARDS

The underpass project was submitted for a Road Safety Authority Leading Lights award, and the judging process took place in two stages. First, the applications were shortlisted by an internal judging panel in the RSA. The panel selected three entries in each award category to go forward to the final judging process. The shortlisted entries were then judged by a panel of high profile individuals. The outcome of the judging process was conveyed as follows.

‘Dear Margaret – Thank you for submitting a nomination to the 2016 Road Safety Authority (RSA) ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ Awards. This year we received over 300 nominations for individuals, schools, business, community groups, colleges and organisations across the country who have worked to make our roads safer. Your entry, on behalf of Craanford Community, was among the most impressive and was shortlisted for review by our panel of high-profile judges last week. The panel included Sinéad Spain (Head of News, Today FM), Mary Cunningham (Director of the NYCI), Joe Reynolds (Reynolds Logistics), Hugh O’Neill (former Chief Fire Officer, Dublin Fire Brigade), Judge Michael Pattwell and RSA Chairperson Liz O’Donnell.

‘The judges found it extremely hard to select a winner in this category and spent quite some time deliberating over the shortlisted entries. Unfortunately, on this occasion they decided to give another entrant the award but were extremely impressed by the calibre of work that is being done to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Thank you for taking the time to submit this entry for a Leading Lights Award we sincerely hope you consider submitting an entry again next year. With best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas. Moyagh Murdock Chief Executive, Road Safety Authority
