HOSPICE FUNDRAISER

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club is organising its annual Liam Cooper Memorial football match on St Stephen’s Day at midday. The Junior ‘A’ team will take on the Junior ‘B’ team in what promises to be an entertaining game. All the money raised at the game will be donated to Hospice Homecare and your generous donations would be very gratefully accepted for this worthy cause.

TODDLER GROUP

On Wednesday last, December 14, there was tremendous excitement in Boolavogue hall as Santa himself called in to meet everyone in the parents and toddler group. He even managed to bring along a few presents and assured them all, parents and toddlers alike that they are all on the ‘good’ list. He was a bit doubtful about a few of them so he checked the list twice just to be sure and according to him they are sound.

After he had departed, the toddlers settled down to a tough session of Christmas decoration making. It was a great success and the organisers would like to thank all those who helped make it so enjoyable, especially the main man himself. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 21st. will be the group’s last meeting of 2016 and they will come together again on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday, December 10, the under-12 girls travelled to Cushinstown in a cup game and advanced to the next round with a 3-0 win. Emerson Doran got the first goal in the first minute of the game. Michaela Milling added the second well into the second half and Jessica Foran rattled home from 20 meters out with barely two minutes left in the game.

Playing at home, the under-12 boys were very unlucky to lose by 0-2 to Oylegate. Against the run of play, Oylegate scored but our lads were well in control till keeper, Callum Byrne was redcarded for a tackle outside the area. A goal which was scored from play immediately after the tackle was allowed to stand, despite Callum’s dismissal and no free was given. Gorey Rangers came out to Boolavogue to take on the under-14 boys and again proved too strong for our lads, winning easily. Scott Keegan found the net for us but Gorey scored six in reply.

On Sunday the 11th, the Men’s ‘A’ team travelled to Bridge Rovers and in a below par preformance, lost out by the same margin as the under-14 boys. Paul ‘Roddy’ Doyle with a spot-kick, scored our goal. Joe Fitzgerald scored for the ‘B’ team which also lost. They had travelled Ballymurn and lost by 1-2 in a slow game.

Last weekend, on Saturday the 17th, all underage games were cancelled despite many pitches seemingly playable. On Sunday the 18th. the adult games went ahead and the men’s ‘A’ team hosted Corach Ramblers but lost out by 0-2. It looked as if our lads would take an early lead when a powerful Brian O’Loughlin shot from 25 yards seemed certain to rattle the net. However, the Corach keeper skillfully tipped it over he bar. Then in a five minute period, Corach scored twice and try as our lads might from then on, they could never manage to find a chink in the well organised Corach defence.
