Margaret remembered for her generosity of spirit
The family and many friends of Margaret Hennessy Nisbet of Moortown Great, Tomhaggard and late of Enniscorthy, have been deeply saddened by her recent death.
Margaret is mourned by her husband Richard; her brother Jack Hennessy, Edermine; sister-in-law Siobhan Hennessy; her niece and nephew Katie and Jack Hennessy; her brother-inlaw David Nisbet, Hermitage Park, Rathfarnham; his wife Cynthia and sons John and Brian; her relatives, friends and former colleagues in Wexford General Hospital.
A daughter of the late Jack and Carmel Hennessy of 9 St. John’s Villas, Enniscorthy Margaret attended the Presentation convent school in Enniscorthy and boarded at St. Leo’s College, Carlow.
She trained in general nursing at the Mater Hospital, Dublin and in midwifery at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. She worked in Wexford General Hospital for several years before qualifying as a Public Health Nurse.
After some time as the Public Health Nurse in Davidstown/Bree and in the Camolin area, she went back to hospital life and did a course in Theatre Nursing in the Meath Hospital after which she worked in the Meath and in Ely House before returning to Wexford General Hospital.
Margaret played hockey, basketball and tennis, especially in St. Leo’s and for the Dublin Hospitals Team in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1993 she married Richard Nisbet of Clonskeagh, second son of Tom Nisbet RHA and his wife Kathleen.
She had taken early retirement on health grounds after a spinal operation in April 2015. She was enjoying retirement and had just recently returned from a trip to Edinburgh. Margaret became suddenly ill on December 1 and underwent emergency surgery but died on December 3, aged 59 years.
She was waked at Macken’s Funeral Home with removal to Kilmore Church. Nurses from Wexford General Hospital formed a guard of honour at her removal. Prayers were led by Very Rev. James Murphy, Rosslare.
At her concelebrated Requiem Mass in Kilmore, the chief celebrant was Very Rev. Denis Doyle PP of Kilmore who spoke about Margaret’s kindness, her generosity of spirit and all the people who would have known her care and attention when they passed through Wexford Hospital.
The obsequies at the end of Mass were led by Rev. Prof. Fintan Morris, a family friend, assisted by Very Rev Jim Finn, Crossabeg; Very Rev John Byrne, Oylegate; Rev James Doyle, Tomhaggard and Very Rev Hugh O’Byrne, a neighbour of Margaret’s.
A large number of people attended her funeral including mourners from Kilmore and Enniscorthy, from Wexford General Hospital, St. Peter’s College, Wexford and from Enniscorthy Rugby Club.
Margaret is sadly missed by all her family and friends.
