CONOR’S ‘12 PUBS OF DRUMS GOREY’ PROVES A REAL HIT

- BY FINTAN LAMBE

Gorey’s Conor Moore had a different spin on ‘12 Pubs of Christmas’ when he released a video online last week titled ‘12 Pubs of Drums, Gorey’.

The former member of Seo Linn, who set up his own drumming business, Sound Out Rhythm, in September, came up with a clever idea for a music video which takes in twelve pubs in Gorey.

‘I’ve had a super reaction to it,’ he said. ‘It had 60,000 views and over 1,000 shares in the first 24 hours.’

He said it took two days to shoot and two days to edit. Videography was by Conor Stafford Video, while sound engineer was John Redmond of Black Dog Studios.

‘I thought about doing it last year, but didn’t have time as I was doing that much with Seo Linn,’ he said. ‘I contacted Conor and John in October and we put together a vague plan. I couldn’t even understand it myself.’

He said even though he couldn’t exactly explain it to the publicans either, they were more than happy to accommodate him.

‘A lot of inspiration came during the actual shoot,’ he explained. He used various items in the pubs as drums, and these were then overlaid to create the track.

In the video, he gets the idea while in the Naomh Eanna bar, and then begins drumming in The Bridge Bar. Then it’s up to The Coach House; Loch gCarman Arms; Breen’s, Bob’s Bar; French’s; Katie Daly’s; The Fowler; McGovern’s; Paddy Blues; Browne’s; and Nell Sweeney’s.

He can be seen tapping cups and bottles behind French’s bar, ringing the door bell in Browne’s Bar, and smashing a pint glass in McGovern’s. This of course gets him thrown out by Michael McGovern, who was happy to play along.

Other publicans to feature include David Tomkins, Jim French, Boris Ivanoff, and Michael Gleeson.

‘We were in each pub a maximum of ten minutes,’ said Conor. ‘Conor got four minutes of footage in each. It all comes together in the end to form ‘The Little Drummer Boy.’

The video has been seen around the world, and Conor said it was his way of saying thank you to Gorey, and for supporting his business which has been going very well so far.
