Exhibition to focus on life in Palestine
A UNIQUE photographic exhibition, Imaging Palestine, will take place in the Athenaeum, Enniscorthy from January 6 to January 8.
Imaging Palestine is a collection of photographs taken during a number of West Bank trips to Palestine over the past ten years. The trips have given over 400 ordinary people, mainly Irish people, some from Wexford, the opportunity of witnessing first-hand the humanity, dignity, resilience and resistance of the Palestinian people and their desire to live in peace – a just peace.
Those who have travelled to Palestine and experienced this humanity first hand want to share their experience with the people of Wexford.
The exhibition celebrates a decade of solidarity with Palestine and the shared humanity that exists between our countries. It is dedicated to the steadfast ones – to all those Palestinians throughout the world, as they continue their fight for justice, equality, the right to return and their right to self-determination.
Those who have travelled on these trips do not belong to any particular organisation, they are just a group of interested and caring people who believe in the Palestinian people’s right to live in peace in their own land.
The exhibition had its Irish premier in Dublin in October and Enniscorthy is the first leg of its tour outside Dublin. This will be followed by Belfast later in January. The Athenaeum was chosen because of its tremendous history and the many synergies that exist between Ireland’s history and that of Palestine.
The exhibition will be launched Tom Mooney, editor of The Wexford Echo Group of Newspapers at 8pm on Friday, January 6.
The Exhibition will be open from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, January 7 and from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, January 8.
Admission is free.
