MIGHTY GYMSTARS

Six team golds for Model gymnasts

- GYMNASTICS at University of Limerick

WELL done to all the gymnasts from Gymstars Gymnastic Club who were triumphant at the recent Acrobatic Team Trophy Competition which was held in University Limerick earlier this month.

The Acrobatic Team Trophy is one of the two main competitions in the Acrobatic calendar and it’s All Ireland medals are hard won.

This is a team competition where teams from all over Ireland compete for regional medals plus the coveted All-Ireland medals.

Gymstars had seven teams competing and stole the show in the South East region by winning six out of the seven team gold regional medals.

This is a fantastic achievement for the club as the standard in the South East is extremely high. Not only were Gymstars Gymnasts successful in their region but every single one of their seven teams came home with the much sought after All-Ireland medals.

This achievement is massive and shows what a fantastic standard the club has, this is all down to the club’s fantastic and dedicated coaches.

On day one of the competition the level one, two and three gymnasts competed.

In level one, Gymstars had three different groups. In the team were Anna Walsh, Alannah Cummins, Lucy Roche, Lily McLoughlin, Ava Gahan and Julianne Purcell.

All these gymnasts have never competed at such a big event before and they were all fantastic, winning silver regional medals but best of all for their first time competing at this level they won the bronze All-Ireland medals.

In level two, Gymstars had Caitlin Rossiter, Robyn Wiggins, Isabella Gainford, Sophie Chapman, Shonagh McCourt and Lara Butler.

Some of these Gymnasts had competed before and their experience shone through with the team winning gold regional medals and silver All-Ireland medals.

In level three, Gymstars had a full team of three groups. They were: Ashley Bolger, Finola Monahan, Nessa Carthy, Gabrielle Kubilivite, Amber Shaw, Tomai Slevin, Jessie Durkovicova and Eve Kinsella.

This was a very well rehearsed team and all three groups delivered fantastic routines with Tomai Slevin, Jessie Durkovicova and Eve Kinsella receiving the highest mark’s in level three.

Again the team won the gold regional medals plus the much sought after silver All-Ireland medals even though this section had the most number of teams for the whole competition.

In level four, Gymstars also had a very good team. They were: Emma Dempsey, Sinead Kirwan, Sarah Murphy, Frankie Moody, Shauna Dunne, Issy Kavanagh, Abbie Devereux and Katie Bowe.

This group were also up against very stiff opposition but all performed brilliantly and won the gold regional medals and bronze All-Ireland medals.

Level five was a very competitive and high level group but Gymstars had a very talented group of gymnasts in this section.

Gymstars had Abby Mulligan, Mair Williams, Owen Murphy and Isabella Booth.

These two groups train up to 12 hours a week and were well prepared for this high standard all the hard work paid off when the team not only won gold gegional but also won the All-Ireland gold medals which was well deserved.

In the very high standard 11-16 section, Gymstars had two great trios in action: Nhan Slevin, Katie Mai McCabe, Charlie Buckley, Alison Doyle, Sophie Graydon and Aoibhe Ormonde.

Both these trios performed fantastic routines and can be very proud of their gold regional medals and silver All-Ireland medals.

Last groups to mention are the 12-18 group.

Gymstars had one trio who were performing two routines, which both had to count.

Gymnasts were Aoife Prunty, Aisling Caldicott and Ellen O’Brien. The trio were performing in the highest category in the competition and the girls did not let their club down competing both routines with ease even though the moves they were performing were some of the most difficult in the competition the girls won gold regional medals plus silver All-Ireland medals.

Well done girls on a fine performance.

Congratulations to all gymnasts who competed, you did yourself and your club proud.
