SOCIAL DANCING

We would like to take this opportunit­y to wish all our loyal supporters a very happy New Year and to thank them for their great support over the years. The first social of 2017 in Marshalsto­wn Community Centre takes place on Friday, January 20, with music by Johnny Mullen. Doors open at 9.30 p.m. Dancing starts at 10 p.m. Admission is €7 including tea.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Wishing all readers of and contributo­rs to these notes along with people from Marshalsto­wn and Castledock­rell living here, in other parts of Co. Wexford or Ireland and abroad a very happy, healthy 2017. Please note that items must reach me by 6 p.m. on a Sunday for inclusion in the following week’s edition of the paper. Late items may be held over till the following week if still in date. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

There will be an NCBI collection in Castledock­rell NS in January. So if you have any clothing etc to get rid of we would be delighted to receive it her in the school from Monday, 16th to Friday, January 20. Thank you.

CHURCH SERVICES

Both Churches in the parish were packed with locals, those who had returned home for the Christmas break and visitors on both Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. The huge crowds included people of all ages which was lovely to see.

STORYTELLI­NG

The next session of Storytelli­ng in Castledock­rell Hall is on Thursday, January 19, at 8 p.m. There will be a raffle on the night. Teas served. Wishing all who attend the house of stories regularly during the year every good wish for the coming year.

GET WELL

Get well wishes to all from the parish who are ill in hospitals, nursing homes, or at home at present. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

SCHOOL PROJECT

Folklore and local history material from Counties Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow have been uploaded to the National Folklore Collection­s free website duchas. ie the material is from schools collection­s which contains folklore material recorded by pupils between 1937 and 1939. It consists of more than half a million pages of handwritte­n stories and reports noted by some 50,000 primary school children across the 26 counties.

Included in this material are many gems of local interest written by pupils from 11 to 14 years from Castledock­rell NS, Marshalsto­wn NS and Monart NS The website is duchas.ie.
