North End eyeing double success

MMI.ie Wexford Women’s Cup

St. Leonards 0, North End United 4: Newly-crowned Division 1 champions North End United advanced to the quarter-finals of the Wexford Cup but had to work very hard to overcome a resilient home side.

Two goals from Natasha Walsh, recently signed back from Corach, and a goal each from Cara McDonald and Martina Pender saw the Wexford town side through before they headed back to Belvedere where League Vice-Chairman Barry Dempsey presented the team with their Division 1 trophy.

Cloughbawn AFC 0, Adamstown FC 4: Cup holders Adamstown are through to the quarter-finals after this 4-0 win away to a hard-working Cloughbawn side.

Marcella Cullen continued her good form in front of goal with two, while Caithlin Harler and Edwina Whelan also found the net.

Rosslare Rangers 0, Piltown FC 4: Piltown made the long journey to Rosslare Rangers and made it through to the last eight of the MMI.ie Cup thanks to their 4-0 win.

Aoife McCormack and Sophie Kelly struck a goal each while Anna Maria Tobin scored twice.

All Blacks 1, Fastnet Rovers 2: Fastnet continued their giant-killing exploits in the cup when they travelled to Division 1 side All Blacks and came away 2-1 winners.

Two first-half goals from Louise Walsh and Katerina Kelly saw Rovers go 2-0 up and, although Tina Colloton scored a second-half goal for the home side, Fastnet held on to go through to the quarter-finals.

Seaview United 1, Ferns United 5: Ferns continued their quest for a League, Cup and Shield treble when they travelled to Seaview and progressed to the semi-finals.

Catherine Doyle scored for a home side who were disappoint­ed with their performanc­e while Josie Dwyer, Johanne Barcoe and Mary O’Neill scored a goal each for Ferns, with Leona Breen adding two.

Women’s Premier Division

East End United 8, Curracloe United 0: East End overcame a youthful Curracloe side to move joint second in the table, just a point behind leaders Ferns. Laura Dooley scored a hat-trick, Rebecca Walsh hit the net twice, while Aine Lannon, Hannah Scott and Jenny Reddy all added a goal each.

Women’s Division 1

Kilmore United 2, Bree United 2: The home side went in front twice in this game thanks to two goals from Katrina Parrock, but Bree pulled them back twice for a well-earned point thanks to goals from Sonya Spratt-Murphy and Christine Spratt-Murphy.

Women’s Division 2A

Camolin Celtic 2, St. Joseph’s 0: St. Joseph’s are still top of the table despite this defeat but have only one league match remaining so will do well to ward off the chasing pack.

Camolin kept their title hopes alive with a goal in each half from Caroline Murphy and Aoife Curran.

Women’s Division2 B

Seaview United 0, Courtown Hibs 2: Courtown had to work very hard to come away from Seaview with all three points and keep their title ambitions alive with two second-half goals.

After a very evenly contested first-half, goals from Sarah Lynch and Caoimhe McKeon gave Hibs the victory.

Bunclody AFC 4, Wexford Bohs 0: The home side remained a point clear at the top of the table after they overcame a battling and improving Wexford Bohs side 4-0.

Kate Hendrick scored twice with Britney Conroy and Daria Cyparska also getting their names on the scoresheet for Bunclody.

Women’s Division 3

Bridge Rovers 1, Cushinstow­n 0: Bridge Rovers moved third in the table and notched up their fourth win of the season after this hardfought 1-0 victory over Cushinstow­n.

Sarah Ryan scored the only goal of a well-contested encounter, with the visitors feeling unlucky not to have got at least a point.

Stoney LFC 0, Tombrack United 1: Tombrack came out on top in this top of the table clash and have now moved five points clear of Stoney who remain in second place.

Shannon McGovern scored five minutes into the game and despite loads of goalmouth action at both ends, this goal proved to be the one that secured victory for the visitors.
