Paul is on to a winner with dream graphic designer job

-

A RARE auto-immune disorder may have cut his socceer career short, but Enniscorthy man Paul Devereux landed a dream job as a graphic designer – on the same day he recieved his graduating results from Waterford Institute of Technology.

Paul, of Templescoby, Enniscorthy, is the son of Teresa and Mick. He was a talented footballer growing up – representing Ireland at underage level – but that dream was brought to a halt when he was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder, arthritis overlapping with myositis, the first case recorded in Ireland.

‘After many hard years of medication, soccer was no longer an option for me which meant I had to channel my energy elsewhere,’ said Paul. ‘Seven years on and I am doing something I love, I am in remission for three and a half years and feeling great.’

Paul, who graduated from WIT with a BA (Hons) Design in Visual Communications, is now working as a graphic designer with AKGraphics.

‘The experience of working in a real design studio setting has been a great learning curve,’ said Paul. ‘I have had the opportunity to work on some really exciting projects.’

Anne Kelly, Creative Director at AKGraphics, employed Paul and is very impressed. ‘We are delighted with the standard of the graphic design students,’ said Anne. ‘We employed Paul directly from college, and he is still working with us, and is blossoming in graphic design.’
