Acclaimed singers Leslie and Mike in Enniscorthy
On Saturday February 18 acclaimed singer/songwriters, Leslie Dowdall and Mike Hanrahan will perform from their much anticipated national tour, ‘You are my sister’ at the Presentation Art Centre, Enniscorthy at 8.30pm.
With legendary histories behind them – Leslie with her earlier career with ‘In Tua Nua’ and Mike with the famed ‘Stockton’s Wing’ – the duo are combining to present a powerful and innovative force on stage.
Between them and to the present day, they are still lauded for retrospective classic hits such as ’Beautiful Affair’, ‘Walkaway’, ‘Freedom’ and Leslie’s signature tune ‘Wonderful Thing’. Their replication of collected and intriguing tunes combined with dynamic originals never fail to enchant their audience. Partners in crime since 2009, they recently have recorded a version of Anthony and the Johnston’s compelling composition, ‘You are my sister’, which will soon be available for download.
Leslie Dowdall first found fame as the voice of In Tua Nua, the band that fused Celtic traditions with rock for seven years in the 1980s. Her solo career began in earnest with the release of her first album in 1997, the artfully entitled ‘No Guilt, No Guile’. The album won high praise for the creativity, vision and the soulful vocals for so long hidden beneath the music of the past. As a result, Leslie won the 1997 ‘Best Solo Female’ artist at the Heineken/Hot Press Music Awards. Leslie remains one of the best female singer-songwriters in Ireland today.
Singer, songwriter, guitarist Mike Hanrahan, who is best remembered for his work with Stockton’s Wing, has worked with both Ronnie Drew and Eleanor Shanley and is now blending brilliant with Leslie Dowdall to create a new and compelling onstage experience not to be missed.
