A real trip down memory lane
IT was a trip down memory lane at Screen National School last Thursday for up to 100 grandparents who turned out for the annual Grandparents Day.
Some of the visitors had themselves attended the 50-year-old school as children, so the visit proved an ideal opportunity to see how much things had changed over the past decades.
During the evening, 16 iPads paid for by fund raising involving parents and grandparents over the past 12 months were presented to what is a ‘digitally-awarded school’.
And to keep the grandparents in their comfort zone, two old style desks, with typewriters and pens had been set up alongside the all the high-tech aides.
The children guided their grandparents on a tour of the school, which was very well received.
‘ There was a great turnout,’ said Mags Boland, a member of the school’s parents’ council.
‘ The school itself celebrated 50 years last year and there were a lot of generations who had attended it,’ she said.
Visitors included grandparents from as far afield as Wicklow and Cork, and naturally a lot of of people from the local area.
Principal Fiona Wickham thanked everyone for coming and reiterated the influence that grandparents have on their grandchildren and vice versa.
The evening began with a prayer ceremony at Screen Church conducted by Fr Denis Kelly.
