Beauty salon opens at luxury store
ONE of County Wexford’s finest stores, Town & Country Mercantile in New Ross, has reopened having had its stock destroyed in a fire last November, with a new beauty salon for customers.
Hundreds of thousands of euros in stock was destroyed at Town & Country Mercantile luxury goods store after a man who stole a motorcycle in New Ross set it on fire at the rear of the premises on the quay.
Smoke from the fire entered the Town & Country Mercantile - which sells luxury goods over three floors and has a new beauty salon - through vents at the rear of the premises.
The smoke alarm at Town & Country Mercantile was activated and gardaí and members of New Ross Fire Service arrived within a matter of minutes. Gardaí preserved the scene and carried out a forensic examination.
InWater florists next door also had to close due to smoke damage and Town & Country Mercantile - which is a three storey premises - sustained smoke damage. Seven people’s jobs were temporarily affected by the fire. Town & Country Mercantile proprietor Billy Ryan said: ‘We would just like to thank all our wonderful customers, friends and family for all their kind wishes and unbelievable support. It really meant so much to all our staff and proves that the decent people of New Ross and surrounding areas are really something special who can and do support and appreciate what we have here.
‘I can’t speak highly enough of the local fire brigade and gardaí, both of whom were exceptionally professional and helpful beyond belief. We are delighted to be back open and with our new and exciting Beauty Salon.’
