GAA NEWS

JUNIOR B LEINSTER FINAL – many thanks to the very many supporters who travelled the long distance to Killeedy on Sunday last to support the junior B’s. We always knew the Galway’s champions were tough opposition but it was end to end stuff till they got two quick goals to lead at half time. With a strong wind the day belonged to the westerners but our lads never gave up right to the final whistle. Final score 2-13 to 0-8. Despite defeat this occasion they are still in this competitio­n and await further informatio­n on the next stage.

MEMBERSHIP – Many thanks to all who paid their membership last week, the final night for payment of membership will be Monday, February 27.

STEVIE SHINES IN SHANGHAI – Craanford’s loss is Shanghai’s gain. While we knew it might take a little time to settle into his new surroundin­gs, his club members and friends are not surprised he has made such an impact so quickly on the GAA scene east side. Shanghai’s first ever football team success in the Asian games is down to the boot of Craanford’s Stevie Greene and they are celebratin­g still so much so that Stevie is down for selection for newcomer of the year at their annual awards celebratio­n. Word has it that he is also a well-known character on the karaoke circuit too. Congratula­tions, Stevie.

SCOR – Senior Scór will take place in Oulart Hall on Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. Registrati­on at 7.30 p.m. Categories include figure dancing, set dancing, solo singing, instrument­al music, ballad group, léiriú and recitation. table quiz (teams of 4) will take place in St Martin’s GAA. Complex on Thursday, March 9, at 8 p.m. We encourage all clubs to take part in these events. Please inform your club members who may have an interest in some of the categories. This competitio­n is for those over 17 years old (i.e. those who have reached their 17th birthday prior to January 1). We look forward to increased participat­ion in 2017.

PARISH SECRETARY – We hope to set up a Parish Office in the near future to provide secretaria­l support for the parish of Craanford-Monaseed. It is hoped that this facility will also support the work of community groups in the area. Our hope is to employ a parish secretary under the auspices of the local CE scheme. This person must be at least 25 years of age and in receipt of a payment from Social Welfare This is a personal developmen­t opportunit­y and training will be provided, however some office experience would be helpful. CHURCH GATE COLLECTION – Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Wexford Branch will hold their Church Gate collection in Craanford after Masses on February 25 and 26. All support welcome.

SPLIT THE POT

DRAMA NIGHT

Kilmuckrid­ge Drama Group will present ‘Shadow of a Gunman’ by Seán O’Casey in Craanford Community Centre on Monday and Tuesday, February 20 and 21, at 8 p.m. Proceeds to Craanford Underpass. Your support would be appreciate­d.

Best of luck to Anna Kenny, Bannpark, who has qualified for the next stage of ‘Junk Kouture’ with her creation entitled ‘In Bloom’. This competitio­n is run for secondary school students who devise an outfit completely from recycled products.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to Martin O’Connell and family on the death of his mother Kathleen O’Connell of Bunclody. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

‘BATTLE OF THE BANN’

The ‘Battle of the Bann’ will take place on Saturday, March 4, when boxers from Craanford take on their opponents from St Pat’s Camolin. Tickets for this much anticipate­d event are now on sale from any of the boxers and from Gala price €20.
