TRACTOR RUN

As part of the GAAs ‘Biggest Loser’ iniative, the Knockduff/ Clondaw team are organising a Tractor Run on Sunday next, February 26. The convoy will leave the GAA Complex in Monageer at midday and travel to Ferns, The Harrow, Boolavogue, Raheenduff and back to Monageer. Refreshmen­ts will be provided in the GAA Complex afterwards. GAA NEWS

The U8s, under-10s and under-12s have started their training already and the under-12s travelled together to Innovate Wexford Park recently to see the Wexford Hurlers take on Limerick in their first league match of the season. Naturally they were delighted with the result and saw a great competitiv­e game of hurling.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Órla Stafford is hoping to organise training and competitio­ns for under-10 and under-12 ladies’ Gaelic Football teams in Monageer-Boolavogue. If your daughter is interested in playing football, please text Órla at 086 6066437 as soon as possible as she needs to have an estimate of how many eligible players might be taking part.

CPR TRAINING

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club are hosting a CPR training session for all members of the community in the GAA complex, tonight, Tuesday, February 21, from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. If you would like to renew your qualificat­ion or become qualified in CPR, please contact Brigid Sinnott at 087 6826336. The training free of charge and could help you save a life.

‘BIGGEST LOSER’

There was great craic and camaraderi­e at the ‘4@4’ – 4km walk at 4 p.m. in the afternoon in Monageer last weekend. The organisers would like to thank all those who took part and especially those who provided the reviving cups of tea afterwards.

The results of the ‘Boolavogue Can Dance’ extravagan­za which was held in the Harrow on Friday night last, February 17 are not to hand as yet, but there was very keen interest in who would be crowned as supreme ‘Twinkle-Toes’ on the night.

This Friday the 24th, a relay race will be held on the GAA pitch in Monageer. Teams of four will race around the track and the entry fee is only €5 per person.

On Sunday, February 26, a PS4 FIFA 17 competitio­n will be held in Monageer-Boolavogue GAA club’s clubhouse. This will be held in the GAA Complex at 2 p.m. Players will compete for the MBGAA FIFA 2017 title. Entry is only €5 and it’s not just for children and teenagers, everyone is welcome to take part.

BOOLAVOGUE CAN DANCE

Six couples took part in the ‘Boolavogue Can Dance’ competitio­n in the Harow on Friday night last, February 17 and after a three-way tie, in the end, Aidan and Eleanor Fenlon were crowned the 2017 winners. The Ballycarri­geen team in the Biggest Loser competitio­n were represente­d by two couples, Mogs Gahan and Ciara Larkin and John and Ciara Breen.

The Boolavogue team’s representa­tives were Niall Finn and Vivienne Gahan and Darren Murphy and Niamh O’Connor. Knocknasge­ach also had two entries, Aidan and Eleanor Fenlon and Barry and Eve Murphy. MC on the night was the effervesen­t, tactful, sensitive Daire Turner with the multi-talented skills of judges Lorraine Lacey, Louise Lawless and Cormac O’Loughlin being tested beyond endurance almost.

After the first round of dancing, and after the money buckets were counted, Morgan and Ciara, Niall and Vivienne and Aidan and Eleanor proceeded to the final dance-off. After long deliberati­on, the three wise judges finally settled on Aidan and Eleanor as the winners. The organisers would like to thank all who took part, who sponsored valuable prizes or who helped in any way to make this a great success.

‘BIGGEST LOSER’ CYCLE

On Sunday last, February 19, the second challenge of the ‘Biggest Loser’ competitio­n started from the GAA complex in Mon- ageer, when over 80 cyclists headed off, some on the 16km ride and even more on the 50km option. The 50Km cycle headed for Tinnacross, on to the Harrow, thence to Ferns, turning left for Clone, on through Killabeg, then to Solsboroug­h and from there to Enniscorth­y. It continued on to Oulart, up to Oulart Hill, through Raheenduff back to Boolavogue and then home via the Harrow and Tinnacross.

First man home after the 50km cycle was Paul Bolger representi­ng the Killabeg team, closely followedy by Peter Kirwin and Colm Kelly. A Killabeg representa­tive, Caitríona Nangle was also the first women to finish the 50km race, followed by Mary Carton and Marie Cullen. Edward Kinsella, who was the only underage entrant in this section of the competitio­n, was not far behind these.

Dave Carthy was first man home in the 16km section of the race, with Aidan Kehoe and Niall Finn not far behind. Amy Long was the first of the 16km ladies competitor­s home and the underage competitor­s included Bertie Finn, Patrick Kinsella, Áine O’Loughlin, Niamh O’Loughlin, Conan Carthy, Ronan Sweeney, Jamie Cunniffe, Oisín Stafford, Libby Brownrigg, Liam Stafford, Aaron Cunniffe, Adam Power, Simon Power, Emily Kinsella and Spencer Browningg.

The organisers would like to thank all those who helped, cheered, provided refreshmen­ts or took part in the race.

SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday last, February 18, the under-12s were very unlucky to lost out to Kilmore by 1-2 in an away cup fixture. Keeper James O’Leary was injured in the warmup and had to be substitute­d off early in the game and by the halftime whistle, our lads were 2-0 down. They came out blazing in the second half, hit the post on numerous occasions and in the last 10 minutes of the game, Evan Dunne scored a great goal. The remaining time saw the hosts pull everyone into defence and just manage to maintain their slender lead. The under-14s also in cup action, lost out to Ballymurn at home as a result of a very late goal from the visitors.

CÚL CAMP

Monageer-Boolavogue will be hosting a Cúl Camp again this summer. It will run from July the 31st. till August 4 and early booking is advised.

MINISTERS OF EUCHARIST

On Saturday, February 25, Catherine Whelan is due to read at the Vigil Mass in St Cormcac’s with Gaye Gahan reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Georgina Gahan will be helping to distribute Communion at the Vigil Mass and Dorothy Hall is the Minister of the Eucharist on duty at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, February 26.

GAA GYM

Our local GAA club has a comprehens­ively equipped gym in the complex in Monageer and is now taking in new members. Adult membership for the year costs €120 or €200 for a couple. LOTTO

Once again there was no outright winner of the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto when the draw was held in the clubhouse on February 7. The numbers drawn were 1, 6, 8 and 26 and Aggie McHale had three of them an was the sole winner of the €160 match-three prize. The next draw for the even bigger jackpot of €8,600 will be in the clubhouse tonight, Tuesday, February 21, at 9.30 p.m. Tickets only cost €2 so it could be a very worthwhile investment to buy one.

CLOTHES RECYCLING

St Cormac’s parents’ associatio­n are gathering used clothes as a fundraiser for Boolavogue NS the bags will be collected on Monday February the 27th. and if you have any new or used women’s, men’s or children’s clothing to recycle they would be delighted if you could drop them into the school.
