Fantastic Una wasa woman of many talents
UNA MULLINS, Garryrichard, Foulksmills, passed away peacefully to her eternal reward on February 17 aged 71 surrounded by her family at Wexford General Hospital.
Una (née Doyle) grew up in The Ballagh. She attended Blackwater NS before starting her training as a confectioner at Sinnott’s restaurant in Wexford town.
She met Eric Mullins from Foulksmills at a dance in the Parish Hall in Wexford and they were married in September 1965. Una and Eric had nine children, two of whom sadly passed away in their infancy.
Una moved out to Eric’s homeplace in Foulksmills and settled into the farming way of life, working alongside Eric on the farm whilst rearing her family. Her skills at delivering lambs were well known in the parish and she was called on many a time by neighbours in times of difficult births.
A woman who was always good humoured and hard working, Una was happiest when she was at home where she loved baking and cooking. Her pavlovas were legendary and praised by friends and family alike.
She was an excellent dressmaker - her children’s style were the envy of their classmates in their school going days thanks to her sewing skills. Her home was a welcoming place where there was always tea and chat on offer.
Una doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and she enjoyed travelling to visit her children in England and further afield.
A woman of many talents, Una enjoyed playing badminton for the Clongeen 5th Division team and played many matches and tournaments across the county. She also enjoyed gardening and many friends and neighbours came to her for advice on how to improve their gardens.
Such was the beauty of her plants that she was sought after by local garden centres and shops to supply them. Many a grave has been transformed thanks to her colourful and well made window boxes and baskets.
She worked tirelessly over the years alongside other parents to raise money to provide better facilities for her son Kevin and other children with intellectual disabilities.
Una’s health deteriorated in later years and she spent some time at University Hospital Waterford and at Wexford General Hospital where she passed away peacefully on February 17 surrounded by her loving family. Una is survived by Eric; her daughters, Brenda, Sandra, Rene, Ann and Jacintha; sons, Paul and Kevin, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters Peggy and Kit; brother Patsy, sons-in-law, daughter-inlaw, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
A large crowd attended her funeral Mass at St Aidan’s Church in Clongeen and her burial afterwards in the new Cemetery in Clongeen.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
