Housing conference civic reception

-

Chairman of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council Cllr Oliver Walsh hosted a civic reception at Enniscorthy Castle last Wednesday for attendees of the nZEB Building Conference, which took place the following day at the Riverside Park Hotel.

Enniscorthy Historical Re-enactment Society formed a unique Enniscorthy guard of honour for the visitors as they entered our beautiful medieval fortress and caused a stir in 1798 attire complete with pikes and muskets, with all of those attending stopping to chat, admire and have a photo taken with the group, including former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox.

Mr Cox, who is a re-enactment unthusiast, espressed a desire to return to Enniscorthy to witness the re-enactment of the Battle of Vinegar Hill.

MC for the event, the newly appointed town manager Liz Hore complimented Moira O’Gorman, Rory O’Connor and the Castle staff, saying that as a new comer to the town she was hugely impressed with the magnificent venue. Liz also thanked the Holy Grail Restaurant for the most splendid and colourful array of fabulous food and called on County Manager Tom Enright to address the audience. Tom was lavish in his praise for Michael Bennett and another Enniscorthy man Tomas O’Leary saying that they have put Enniscorthy and Wexford County Council ahead of the posse in relation to energy efficient affordable housing.

President of Enniscorthy Chamber John Burke O’Leary complimented everyone involved with bringing the conference to Enniscorthy and invited all to enjoy their stay in our beautiful, historic, musical, cultural and literary town and to be sure to make a return journey.

Architect Tomas O’Leary said that he never dreamed that he would be back in his hometown of Enniscorthy speaking to an audience in the Castle. Tomas is co-founder of MosArt, an architectural firm at the forefront of nZEB standard design.
