Wexford writers well represented at women’s day readathon

-

On Saturday March 11 I spent the day with Wexford author and Chair of the Wexford Literary Festival Carmel Harrington at the Irish Writers Centre, Parnell Square, Dublin at a Readathon to celebrate International Womens Day.

Female writers and poets from all around Ireland and Northern Ireland were invited to the Centre to participate in a readathon, a full-day event in celebration of women’s writing in Ireland. Each participant was given three minutes to read from their own work and the chance to network and connect with fellow female writers and poets.

Former politician and chairperson of the Irish Writers Centre Liz MacManus welcomed the large crowd and thanked all those contributing to what she described as ‘a hugely creative, innovative and enjoyable event’ and she encouraged all to embrace the opportunity to share their work, experiences and ideas.

Wexford was well represented at the event by Carmel Harrington now a best selling author with her fifth book 72 Derry Lane due for release in June and Cat Hogan who released her first novel They All Fall Down last year and her second book, set in Marrakesh, due out this September.

Members of the Wexford Literary Festival were also present with Adele O’Neill celebrating the fact that she has just been offered a three book deal by popular publishing house Head of Zeus.

Yet another success for the Literary Festival now in preparation for its fourth year beginning on Friday May 19 and continuing through to Sunday 21st utilising all our beautiful venues in Enniscorthy - the Presentation Centre, The Church Institue, Enniscorthy Castle and the Athenaeum and boasting a pot of approximately €3,000 to be divided between One Act Drama Award, Poetry Award, Children’s Book Trailer Award and Colm Toibin Short Story Award.

So go to our website now for details and get your submission to us by April 8, who knows this time next year you could be the one with a book deal.
