Second solar farm application in the pipeline for St John’s in Enniscorthy
Another solar farm could be on the way to the St John’s area of Enniscorthy if an application by Highfield Solar is given the green light.
Highfield Solar Ltd is to apply to Wexford County Council for planning permission to develop a 26.5 acre solar farm at St. John’s, Enniscorthy.
The application, if granted, would see the solar farm developed with electrical transformer/ invertor station modules, solar PB panels ground mounted on steel support structures, access roads, fencing, associated electrical cabling, ducting and ancillary infrastructure.
Late last April Wexford County Council granted planning permission to the same company, Highfield Solar Ltd, for the development on an 18 acre solar farm at Sweetfarm and St John’s, Enniscorthy and despite objections Wexford County Council granted permission for the farm.
This farm has a 30-year lifespan under the guidelines of the permission.
At the time Gavin Jones of Highfield Solar said the farm which is located 3km south of Enniscorthy will produce electricity for the national grid and will be ‘absorbed by demand customers in the area as required’.
The Sweetfarm/St John’s solar farm is expected to output 4 megawatts peak which is the equivalent of about 1,300 homes per year.
