50 entries in tenth year

-

THE county’s northernmost parade sets off up Coolgreany’s main street at 12.30 p.m. on St Patrick’s Day.

Approximately 50 entries will begin gathering at Lower Street from midday onwards for what promises to be another spectacle of colour and music. This is the tenth year of the parade and the organisers hope it will be the biggest yet. Leading the parade is this year’s grand marshal Declan Merrigan who is being recognised for his continued support of various community events in the area.

Arklow Pipe Band will add to the atmosphere, while a variety of local groups, organisations, businesses, and vintage enthusiasts will also help ensure an entertaining day for those who line the street.

The viewing stand will be located at the top of the village with commentary from John Rush. The judges will be kept busy choosing the winners of six categories including: best vintage display; vintage vehicle; float; marching or walking entry; original entry; and overall entry.

A fun duck race will follow on the main street afterwards. Ducks are €3 each or two for 5. Collectors will also be out and about and proceeds will go to the local Tidy Towns, the May Byrne Trust House and other groups. People are welcome to drop in to the Trust house for tea and sandwiches.

The committee thanks the various sponsors for their continued support and invites more parade entries on the day.
