Third year art degree students staging exhibition

-

AN exhibition by third year art degree students from IT Carlow’s School of Art and Design will take place at Studio 15, Unit D, Drinagh Retail Park, in Wexford, from tonight (March 14) until March 19.

Sculptors exhibiting are Amanda J. Fitzpatrick, Hyunkyoung Choi, Kevin Martin, Andrew Kingshott, Hanna Bates, Deirdre Travers and Darragh Gill. Painters exhibiting are Mirona Mara, Sheena Furlong, Anne Doherty, Jacqueline White, Luke Monaghan and Jimmy Leonard.

One of those exhibiting, Amanda Fitzpatrick said ‘Studio 15’ is the name of the studio the group has shared since last September.

‘Mostly mature students, now in our 3rd year, this will be our last public exhibition before we have our final degree show in June of next year,’ she said.

‘We are a very mixed group with people from different parts of the country and the world amongst us. When working on a shared brief, we frequently marvel at how our respective works are so very different and gainfully, this ensures that our public exhibitions will be interesting and varied,’ said Amanda.

‘We feel very lucky to be in this particular course as we are working with great lecturers that are practising artists and who are mostly internationally known. This year, our year head lecturer is Orla Barry.. who is very active in the world of performance art.’

The exhibition will be officially opened at 6 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, March 14) by Liz Burns, the county council’s art director, and will open daily from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. up to and including Sunday, March 19.
