HOW SARAH, CLAIRE AND PADRAIG ARE GETTING ON

-

SARAH NICCRAITH (10KM)

These last two weeks have been so busy. Last week I only managed three days’ training, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.day. Thursday was a rest day because I was going hiking for the weekend. I walked 80km of the Wicklow Way from Marley Park in Dublin to Glenmalure in Wicklow.

We did this over three days and had to carry everything with us so I carried about five stone on my back which over the weekend caused my hip injury to flair up again.

Walking downhill turned into the enemy and going uphill was the only relief I could get.

Monday was a rest day only because I couldn’t really move much! I had hoped to be okay and back running and in the gym by Tuesday but it didn’t work out like that.

This week I only ran once on Saturday. I did 6km in close to 35 minutes. I would have given up after five minutes if I’m totally honest but luckily I wasn’t on my own so didn’t stop which I’m really happy about.

I think running with someone is probably the best way for me to train because I get bored running on my own so don’t tend to push myself as much as when I’m with someone else, so going forward I don’t think I’m going to be running alone.

CLAIRE MOLLOY (10KM)

The past two weeks I have pushed myself to get in the distance that I need for the big day. Mainly I am now running 6-8 km but decided last week to try and do 10km and I am delighted to report that I did. It felt great to hear the Map My Run app say that I had completed 10km. I didn’t pay much attention to my time as all I wanted to do was the 10km.

A huge shout out to my running partner in crime Eva Morris who ran over 6km with me and hopefully we can push that distance a little more each week. The support I have received from my family and friends has been huge and I thank them all as without this support I would not be enjoying this journey as much as I am.

Another group of amazing people are my Tuesday exercise class – the laugh that we have is just so uplifting you never know where the conversation will take you.

The mind is such a powerful thing so we have to look after it just as much as we have to look after our bodies and that Tuesday class really does help me look after my mind as well as my body. I am looking forward to the next two weeks training and seeing what I can achieve.

PÁDRAIG DORAN (HALF MARATHON)

Another two weeks gone. I’ve done a few runs around Wexford town. It’s a lot easier running with the lights compared to running the country roads in the dark. It’s amazing even after a few weeks of running I do find it a lot easier and do feel my fitness is improving.

I’ve kept my runs to 10k over the last two weeks so I hope to up the distance in the next week. The stretch in the evenings will encourage me to get out more I hope. I certainly won’t be beating any records but I will feel good about myself when I do cross that finish line.

The hardest thing is putting the time aside to go out running but once I get out on the road I’m glad I’m out and doing it. I’m not losing any weight in the training but I really notice I am fitter and I have more of a spring in my step. I also find I have more energy during the day. It’s better than any Red Bull.
