BROSNAN MOVE REFUSED
Footballer’s bid to join Castletown is turned down
THE REFUSAL of Wexford G.A.A. to sanction the transfer request of inter-county Senior footballer, Ben Brosnan, may lead to an appeal.
Brosnan, who has made over one hundred appearances for his county, had sought a transfer from his native Bannow-Ballymitty club to Castletown, where he now resides.
The Wexford attacker, who carries out his sportswear business from his Castletown address, saw his request for a move come before the Wexford transfer committee who, following lengthy deliberations, decided to reject his bid to join the north Wexford club.
It’s believed Brosnan addressed the requirements to have his transfer approved, such as the production of a utility bill to give proof of his current address, along with a letter from the Bannow-Ballymitty club outlining that they had no objection to his move and wished him well in his new venture.
However, it’s understood that the Wexford transfer committee rejected the application, a matter which will now come before the next monthly meeting of the County Board.
Castletown have not yet decided what course of action the club will take. They will await the findings of the County Board, but should the Board uphold the decision, they are likely to take their case to the DRA.
When contacted on Monday, the club did not want to comment, preferring to await the outcome of a club meeting and a discussion with the player concerned.
This latest decision could lead to much debate as to what constitutes a boundary, particularly in light of the parish rule being altered in the decision to allow the amalgamation of Kilanerin and Tara Rocks, bringing together the parishes of Gorey and Kilanerin.
