Another dream run at Newbridge from Marian

-

THERE WAS good news again from Newbridge on Friday when Marians Dream, owned by Brendan Frayne from Wexford town, continued to impress and maintained her unbeaten record as she flew from traps to beat some hot bitches in her heat of the Red Mills Unraced Bitch Stake, recording a fast 28.74.

She has drawn a favourable trap one in her semi, and she will be a big player to reach the final of this valuable bitch stake.

She will be joined by the Aidan Denton (Enniscorthy)-owned Kereight Star who ran second in her heat and is nicely drawn in trap three in the other semi-final. Hopefully all will go well and both will reach the final. At Enniscorthy the second round of the spring open unraced was decided and the Nick Turner-trained Coco Blaze followed up his good win from the previous week when taking the first heat. He had to battle hard though to get the better of Kereight Sim by a neck in 29.60.

Heat two saw Enniscorthy man Pat Hyland with his charges in top form. His Vinegarhill Moon got out fast to turn over hot favourite Angry Anne in 29.63.

Heat three saw hot favourite Angry Man score in the best of the night time of 29.09. Heat four saw Neamstown Beast score a comfortable four-length win for Ian Tierney in a time of 29.35.

This week’s semi-final will be interesting as things tighten up with more runners going to the bend together, so some luck is always needed to get to the final.

On Thursday, Marie and Patrick Whelan’s Bring Him Home, who has been rising nicely, stepped up another grade after a hard battle to get the better of Strictly Buster by a short head win in a best of the night 28.89 in race six.

Race seven featured the Dermot Flynn-owned Tagalong Hawkeye, a giant 91-pounder who has been in tip-top form. Having scored five times in his last seven races, he took race seven despite having to overcome trap one. Hawkeye is disproving the myth of size as 91 lb. is considered huge for a track racing greyhound.
