Carey grabs winner in Gorey derby

Gorey Celtic earned the bragging rights on Sunday and dented the Premier Division title aspirations of local rivals Gorey Rangers in the process.

Celtic edged a tight encounter 1-0, with Ger Carey getting the all-important goal.

Shamrock Rovers were much too good for bottom side Campile United, with the champions running out 6-0 winners thanks to goals from Ricky Dwyer, Eamonn O’Brien, Seán Wildes, Marty Kelly, Dan Carroll and Eoin McDonald.

A Paul Nolan strike was enough for Bunclody to earn a precious three points against Courtown Hibs, while Kilmore United saw off New Ross Celtic with goals from Jay Malone and Nathan Bates.

Division1

Division 1 leaders Corach Ramblers chalked up another win on Sunday as they came out on top 3-1 against Wexford Bohs.

Niall Harney helped himself to a double, with Philly Murphy also hitting the net for the winners and Emmet Ryan replying for Bohs.

Bridge Rovers are hot on their heels, however, and they saw off Tombrack with the minimum of fuss, winning 4-0 with goals from Mark Mythen, Oisín Firman and Kevin Murphy (two).

Ferns United chalked up a 3-1 win away to Forth Celtic thanks to an own goal and strikes from Tommy Dwyer and James Tonks, with Darragh Rossiter getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Seán Ryan was the hat-trick hero for St. Leonards as they won 4-2 away to St. Cormac’s, with Matty Flynn grabbing their other goal.

Leaders Shelburne produced a five-star first-half performance to sweep aside the challenge of Fastnet Rovers on Sunday.

Shelburne ran out 5-0 winners, with all their goals coming in the opening half through Jamie O’Dowd, Paddy Murphy (two), Denis Murray and an own goal.

Moyne Rangers kept themselves very much in the race by seeing off local rivals Shamrock Rovers 2-0, with goals from Joshua O’Byrne (penalty) and Timmy Dwyer.

Conor Hickey (two penalties), Shane Bradley and Kieran Finn scored for Adamstown as they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with North End United.

Seán Hopkins and Stuart Hayden hit the back of the net for Wexford Celtic as they picked up three points thanks to a 2-1 win over Ajax Athletic.

North End United’s slim hopes of catching runaway leaders Cloughbawn were lessened further when they were beaten 3-0 by fellow promotion-hopefuls New Ross Town on Sunday.

Liam Walsh, Jack Gaynor and David Murphy got the goals for the Barrowsiders.

Forth Celtic earned a welcome three points as theyww overcame Rosslare Strand 5-1, with doubles from Adam Murphy and Aaron Whitty and a goal from Jack Roche, with Adam Buckley replying for Rosslare Strand.

Fethard Rangers also chalked up a 5-1 victory as they outclassed Rathnure in a basement battle.

Division3

Oylegate United collected three points on Sunday as they edged out Raheen 3-2 with a Ciarán Hillery penalty and goals from Barry Dunne and John McCormack.

Ian Storey netted a hat-trick for The Ballagh as they beat Ferns United 4-2, with Tommy Storey grabbing their other goal.

Division3A

Bridge Rovers moved closer to a place in Division 3 with a 2-0 in Camolin on Sunday.

Rosbercon United are also in the hunt for a promotion place and they easily accounted for Wexford Celtic, winning 4-0 with goals from Jamie St. Ledger (two), Michael Cullen and Kevin Doyle.

Richie Minogue (two) and Cory St. Ledger got the goals for Shelburne in their 3-3 draw with Curracloe, while Campile United won 3-2 away to Castledockrell.

Division4

Carne FC moved to the summit of the Division 4 table without having to kick a ball as they were handed a walkover from Gorey Celtic.

All Blacks are still very much in the title race after their 6-3 triumph over Corach Ramblers, with the winners scoring through Jimmy Staples, John Codd, Seán Kehoe, Seán Kelly and two own goals.

Darryl O’Rourke fired Enniscorthy United in front against St. Leonards but the saints fought back strongly to win 3-1, thanks to a David Bradley penalty, a Niall Molloy strike and an own goal.

Division4A

Taghmon United came out on top in the only Division 4A game on Sunday, seeing off Ajax Athletic 3-1 with goals from John Murphy, Shane Power and Anthony Roche.
