Four nights, five venues and 33 comedians – Jestfest on the way

JESTFEST returns to Wexford this May Bank Holiday weekend – it’s the comedy festival where you can see your favourite comedians doing their thing in intimate, atmospheri­c venues all over town. Over four nights at five venues with 33 comedians, Jest Fest - which runs from Thursday, April 27, to Sunday, April 30, promoses to be a barrel of laughs with something for everybody in the audience. Here’s a rundown of what’s in store: Thursday, April 27: The fest kicks off at 9 p.m. with the Wexford Comedy Club, at Mackens, bringing some new acts alongside the best in Irish comedy. Friday, April 28: Alison Spittle, Karl Spain and Fred Croke will be in action at 7.30 p.m. in the Thomas Moore Tavern. Alison has appeared on Republic of Telly and RTE’s New Comedy Awards. At 8 p.m. the same night, Lords of Strut - Late Night (Cian Kinsella and Cormac Mohally) will be taking place at the Wexford Arts Centre. Over at Mackens at 8 p.m. Dublin Comedy Improv, with a line up including Paul Tylak and Kevin Gildea will be making stuff up based on your suggestion­s. John Colleary and Colum McDonnell with Barry Murphy will be in action at the Thomas Moore at 9.30 p.m. be missed. Meanwhile, Karl Spain will be appearing upstairs at Mackens at 11 p.m. Saturday, April 29:

Stand Up Comedy for Kids will get under way at the Wexford Arts Centre at 12 noon, featuring Kev and Paul.

At 7 p.m. Wexford’s homegrown comedy troupe - Wexford Improv Group - is back at Wexford Arts Centre for a night of laugh out loud comedy with off-thecuff wit, impromptu interpreta­tion and comedy sketches.

At 8 p.m. Fred Cooke - Fredliner - will be appearing at the Thomas Moore (piano bar). Niamh Marron and Danny O’Brien will be appearing at Mackens at 8 p.m. while Rory’s Stories and Giz a Laugh gets under way at the Wexford Arts Centre at 9.30 p.m. Sunday, April 30: A superhero circus will take place at Wexford Arts Centre at 12 noon. Tumble Circus bring you nonstop bulletproo­f family fun entertainm­ent as trapeze, jugglers, clowns and acrobats prove that anyone can be a superhero.. At 8 p.m. Neil Delamere’s Work in Progress will take place at Mackens. Neil returns to Wexford for one show only as he prepares for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. David McSavage will be on stage at the Wexford Arts Centre at the same time with his brand new show ‘A Sacred Cow’ - another way at looking at all of the institutio­ns and parts of life in Ireland that shape us. Foil, Arms and Hog - Doomdah will appear at the National Opera House at 8 p.m. A blend of bizarre, surreal and hilarious sketches, this is a show not to be missed. Bringing down the curtain on this year’s JestFest, Fred Cooke and Gearoid Farrelly will appear at the Vine Restaurant at 9 p.m.
