SPRING is here at last and it is time to get back out in the garden again. Seed summer bedding plants and vegetables now be in the greenhouse or polytunnel. Wallace’s have a large range of seed trays and propagators in store to get you started. Onions and Shallots can also be planted and if you sow your own potatoes now is the time to get them going too.You can begin chitting (sprouting) your early potato varieties for planting before the end of the month.

Weather permitting you can mow the lawn on a dry windy day. If you are planning on sowing a new lawn, now is the time to prepare the ground for sowing next month. It’s also a good time to get on top of the weeds in the garden by hoeing regularly.

Dont forget to plant your Summer flowering bulbs now which are available in store at Wallace’s. Why not brighten up your containers with some lovely Polyanthus which will flower for weeks. Deadhead the spent flowers regularly to keep them looking good and keep them watered. If you have old pots you can top dress them now by removing the top inch of soil and replacing it with some new compost. We have some great deals on our compost!

At Wallaces we have a lovely selection of Trees, Roses, Climbers, Heathers, Alpines, Herbs and much more to get you started for the growing season. We also stock a lovely range of furniture.

In the meantime if you have any questions on your garden why not pop into Wallace’s Garden Centre, Wellingtonbridge and have a chat with our friendly gardening experts who can advise you on what best for your garden?
