CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

There will be a church gate collection in aid of Fighting Blindness on the weekend of April 8/9. Your generous support would be very much appreciate­d.

WEXFORD ROSE

Ms. Julie Sinnott, the Ballindagg­in Belle, who teaches the children in first and second class in Boolavogue National School, has been chosen as the Wexford Rose for this year’s ‘Rose of Tralee’ festival in August. Congratula­tions and well done from all the pupils in Boolavogue NS, from St Cormac’s parents’ associatio­n and everyone in Boolavogue.

KIDS’ CLUB

There will be a Kids’ Club organised in Ferns Community Centre on Tuesday, April 11, from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. for children from five to 12 years of age. Activities will include games, art and crafts, Easter story and tasty snacks. For details, please contact Johanna at 086 1621546.

TIDY VILLAGE

Please remember that the Boolavogue Tidy Village group are organising a ‘Spring Clean’ in and around Boolavogue on Saturday, April 15. They would appreciate as much help as possible. Large strong rubbish bags as well as special ‘claws’ or ‘pickers’ will be provided for those involved. The group will be starting from St Cormac’s church at 2 p.m. on the 15th.

The group will also be holding their annual sponsored walk on Sunday, April 30. Cards for the sponsored walk are available from Lawless’ shop and any money raised will be used to help keep Boolavogue clean, tidy and beautiful.

ICA NEWS

Tonight, Tuesday, April 4, the AGM of the local guild of the ICA will be held in Boolavogue Hall at 8 p.m. All members are urged to attend and anyone wishing to join is invited to come along and will be made most welcome. After the AGM, an open meeting, to which everyone in the community is invited, will be held, starting at 9 p.m. This meeting, hosted by the ICA, will feature a guest speaker from ‘It’s Good to Talk’.

GAA NEWS

Monageer-Boolavogue’s under-12 hurlers travelled to Nolan Park on Sunday last, April 2, to see Wexford beat Kilkenny by 2-18 to 0-19 in the league quarter final. They squeezed in a quick practice match against Gowran on the way to the game. Tonight, Tuesday the fourth they travel to Rathnure for the Rathnure indoor tournament.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday, April 8, Aodhagán Swords is due to read at the Vigil Mass in St Cormcac’s with James Breen reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Ann Whelan will be helping to distribute Communion at the Vigil Mass and Gaye Gahan is the Minister of the Eucharist on duty at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday the 9th.

GAA LOTTO

In the last draw, 12, 18, 19 and 26 were drawn but no one had all four numbers. Rita O’Neill, Tinahely and Louise Lawless, Tobar Geal both had three of the numbers and share the €160 matchthree prize. For the next draw which will take place tonight, Tuesday, April 4, the jackpot has been increased to €8,900. This draw will take place in the New Clubhouse in Monageer at 9.30 p.m. If you haven’t already bought one, tickets costing €2 can be purchased in the clubhouse immediatel­y before the draw.

CPR TRAINING

Another CPR training session has been organised for tonight, Tuesday, April 4, in the GAA complex in Monageer. It will start at 7.30 p.m. and finish shortly after 10 p.m. If you would like to attend, please contact Brigid Sinnott at 087 6826336.

SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday, April 1, the under-16s were away to Forth Celtic in a cup quarter final clash. Understren­gth, the lads battled bravely but were well beaten by a very strong Celtic side. Nathan Huzzar did get a goal for Cormac’s but the deficite at half-time was too large to overcome.

BOXING FOR SOCCER

St Cormac’s are still looking for volunteers who are willing to undergo a tough training regime for the ‘White Collar Boxing’ tournament between St Cormac’s and St Joseph’s. This tournament will take place on Saturday, October 21, and will feature 12 bouts. Full training will be given for a number of weeks before the contest. Anyone interested in volunteeri­ng should contact John Farrington, Phil Christophi or Mark Ellix.

PAEDIATRIC CPR COURSE

The first session of the paediatric CPR course organised by the parent and toddler group, was held on Friday night last, March 31. It was a great success with all agreeing that it was crammed full of useful, sensible informatio­n. A second course, to cater for those who could not be catered for on the first course, will be run on Friday, May 12, and €20 deposit will secure a place on this course.
