RAVEN THEATRE AUDITIONS Gaelscoil Charman, Wexford, Thursday at 7 p.m.

Open auditions for a Raven Theatre production of ‘Three By Tenn: An Evening of Tennessee Williams’ will be held in Gaelscoil Charman this Thursday, April 6. There are a number of parts up for grabs in the trio of one-act plays by the renowned American playwright.

A male and a female from their late 30s upwards are needed for ‘Talk To Me Like The Rain And Let Me Listen’ about two unnamed characters who live in a crumbling flat on the Lower East Side of New York. He is drunk and she is purposeful­ly wasting away but between them there is an intimacy of desperatio­n.

Two females aged in their 40s or upwards and one male in his late are required for ‘Summer At The Lake’ about Donald a young author who is becoming restless under the weighty love of his overbearin­g and manipulati­ve mother. When a letter arrives from Donald’s father announcing that the family’s holiday home is to be sold due to economic necessity, Donald’s summer plans are dashed and Mrs. Fenway takes to the chaise longue and succumbs to the heat.

Three male actors aged in their 20s and 30s are sought for ‘The Palooka’ about an old boxer reminiscin­g with a young boxer about his glory days and their shared admiration for a past star. ‘Three By Tenn’ will be presented by Raven Theatre in June.

Tennesse Williams was the author of such classics as ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’, ‘The Glass Menagerie’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ but he also wrote a number of short plays, featuring themes and and characters that would come to define his later work.

OPEN MEETING County Council HQ, Thursday, 6 p.m.

A open meeting to discuss a major new Government cultural and creativity initiative called Creative Ireland will be held in Wexford County Council headquarte­rs at Carricklaw­n this Thursday, April 6. Everyone interested is invited to attend the event which will be hosted by Council chairman Cllr. Paddy Kavanagh.

AL PORTER AT JESTFEST Thomas Moore Tavern, Sunday, April 30

The flamboyant comedian Al Porter will return to Wexford for the JestFest Comedy Festival taking place over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Porter will perform in the intimate environmen­t of the Piano Bar at The Thomas Moore Tavern, where he will be ‘the host with the most’ in a show packed with some of Ireland’s best comedians including Gearóid Farrelly and surprise guests.

Al Porter joins a line-up of Ireland’s most celebrated comedians in what is en route to becoming one of the top comedy festivals in the country. From april 27 to May 1, venues around town will host David McSavage, Foil Arms and Hog, Neil Delamere, Rory’s Stories, Alison Spittle, Karl Spain, Eric Lalor, Dublin Comedy Improv, Wexford Improv Group, Fred Cooke, The Lords of Strut and many more.

The venues include Mackens, Thomas Moore Tavern and Bugler Doyles along with the National Opera House, Wexford Arts Centre and the Vine Restaurant.

Thee will be plenty for children too with Bam!, a Superhero Circus and Stand-up comedy for Kids taking place at Wexford Arts Centre. Tickets are on sale from jestfest.ie.but hurry because some events are already sold out. JestFest is presented by Lantern Events in associatio­n with Wexford County Council and Visit Wexford.
