TWO teams of students from Colaiste Bride won prizes at the grand final of the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture competition.

Colaiste Bride had five teams in the Grand Final which took place in the 3Arena last Thursday night.

The five teams were ‘La Cheveux de Chien’ by Kaset Grant Kehoe, Nicole Whelan and Catherine Broaders, ‘Ex-Straw-Dinary’ by Colleen Coughlan, Patrycja Wiaczek and Lily Mahon, ‘ The Edge of Elegance’ by Lucy O’Leary, Annalise Creane and Patrycja Mazurczak, ‘Princess Guerrera’ by Patrycja Czerpak, Faith Gardener and Lystus Ebosele and ‘Hoya Capita’ by Isabel Sinnott, Aoife Foy and Lauren McGlynn.

The judging panel which included Louis Walsh of the X Factor and The Saturday’s Una Healy were blown away by all the talent on the night.

‘Princess Guerrera’ by Patrycja Czerpak, Faith Gardener and Lystus Ebosele which was modelled by Lystus won the Best Performance Prize. Their design consisted of tea lights, pheasant feathers, CDs and brush bristles. The girls received Ticketmaster vouchers for their prize.

The second win for Enniscorthy was for the Most Unusual Material and won by ‘La Cheveux de Chien’ by Kaset Grant Kehoe, Nicole Whelan and Catherine Broaders. The girls won the award for their design which was made out of dog hair and modelled by Catherine. They received an ASOS voucher.

The students had been working tirelessly since the beginning of the school year formulating exceptional ideas and then curating their concept pieces. They faced the challenge of transforming recycled materials into haute couture outfits suitable for a foray down the catwalk. Each of the 83 finalists pulled out all the stops, putting on a dazzling show in the country’s largest indoor venue before thousands of screaming fans who were entertained by Irish band Seo Linn, Eurovision hopeful Brendan Murray and Hometown boy Dayl Cronin danced his way into the hearts of the 5,000 strong audience with Dancing with the Stars partner Ksenia Zsikhotska. The evening was MC’d by Xpose’s Glenda Gilson.

‘Engimatic’ from Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Buncrana, was crowned the overall winner. The dress was made from an old trampoline, a broken chandelier and an old carpet maker.
