Cross-channel wins

THE Wexford contingent of jockeys had another good week in Britain, matching the previous week’s tally of eleven winners. Pat McDonald (Taghmon) began on a winning note at Ayr on Monday with a double, on 4/7 favourite, Havana Grey, for Karl Burke, and on Sophie P (9/1) which he got up by a short head.

Jimmy Fortune scored at Leicester on Tuesday on board Burguillos (7/4f) for Andrew Balding.

On Wednesday, Jimmy Fortune and Pat Dobbs (Enniscorthy) had three rides apiece at Bath and both had a winner.

In the five-furlong sprint, Fortune won for Robert Cowell on Desert Sport (6/5), beating Dobbs on Fabric (also 6/5), for Richard Hannon. Dobbs got his winner for Hannon on the well-backed Zebulon (7/2) in the five-furlong maiden.

Over the jumps, Daryl Jacob went to Newton Abbot for two rides and made it pay with a win for Emma Lavelle on Talent to Amuse (7/2) in a novice hurdle.

Pat McDonald had a nice double at Catterick on Thursday, with Izzy Bizu (7/2) for Mark Johnston and Bahamian Bird (7/4) for Richard Fahey.

Tom O’Brien and Daryl Jacob went to Market Rasen on Friday for one ride each and scored a nice 17/1 ‘Star’ double with Star Foot (4/1) and Pawn Star (5/2).

On Saturday at Haydock, Daryl Jacob had an unplaced ride in the big one at 3.10 and then hung around for nearly three hours for the concluding handicap chase.

His time was not wasted as he won by five lengths on Crookstown (9/2) for Ben Chase, beating the favourite comfortably. These little pointers are sometimes worth watching!
