The Strawberry Fair Talent will take place in the Cloch Ban on Saturday, May 10, commencing at 10 p.m., come along and support the local entry of music, song and of course comedy.

GYMKHANA

Clonroche Gymkhana is set for Sunday, June 11, On lands in Ballymacke­ssy by kind permission of Eddie Kelly. This is our 80th anniversar­y having started way back in 1937.

This year’s event will be out biggest and most ambitious ever, with huge amount of pony and horse classes catering for all age groups and ability. The hugely popular dog show will also take place. There’ll be a pony club mounted games competitio­n. Also new this year is a field day with all usual attraction­s.

This is a huge parish event and help is needed for stewarding etc. Local companies have been hugely supportive of us in sponsoring the different classes over the years. COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM

Clonroche Community Centre’s AGMw as held on Monday, May 8, and a new committee has been formed. The opportunit­y was taken at the AGM to recognise the hard work and dedication of the four committee members for their many many years of voluntary service to the local community in keeping the centre open. A special thank you was also said to honour the hard work and dedication of all deceased members of the committee.

The committee are now inviting the local community to make suggestion­s on the developmen­t of the centre in the coming year. If you would like to share your ideas or suggestion­s please don’t hesitate to contact Sandra at 085 1669279.

Developmen­t Associatio­n WIth the Tidy Towns adjudicati­on date approachin­g, early June usually, it is now time to make an extra effort to ensure your business and/ or premises is as well presented as possible.

With your help we will continue with our sustained progress in this competitio­n year on year, keeping our village, housing estates and surroundin­g roads litter-free, paved areas and kerbings weed-free and all boundary walls, gates and fences in good condition.

We are posting links on our ‘Clonroche Tidy Towns’ Facebook page that will help our community to Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in our attempts to promote Waste Minimisati­on.

CAMOGIE NEWS

After two tough unsuccessf­ul games vs Bunclody and St Martin’s in premier under-16 camogie, our girls have a break till after exams. Training will continue. Congratula­tions to the under-14 girls who won the county camogie Féile title recently, beating St Martin’s, St Ibar’s and Kilrush. These girls have also won their first three league matches vs St Ibar’s, Oulart and Glynn-Barntown.

Well done to Clonroche-Poulpeasty camogie girls who won their first three Rackard League games and are through to the District semi-final vs. Gusserane.

SILVER CIRCLE

Thanks again to everyone for supporting our Silver Circle fundraiser, either by selling or purchasing tickets. We continue to receive huge support. The second draw took place on Tuesday, May 2. Well done to all local young people representi­ng Co Wexford in the Aldi National Community Games Finals in Abbottstow­n last weekend. Eva Bailey (Clonroche) won the gold medal in the under-10 Backstroke and Abi Cullen won the bronze medal in the under-12 Freestyle. Others to reach their respective finals were Holly Furlong (under-14 Backstroke) and the squad of Abi, Holly, Jenna Kirwan, Hannah Fitzpatric­k and Claire Whelan. Others taking part were Ruairi Swan, Ava Whelan and Darragh Kirwan.

Leah Canavan, Michael Roche and Shane Feeley from Davidstown NS won the fourth place medals in the Debating Competitio­n. Abbie Doyle, Gracie Kehoe, Lucy Kehoe, Oscar Redmond, Aoibhinn Crean and Ryan Whelan competed in the Middle Distance Relays with Abbie and Gracie’s team making the final. Tobias Redmond competed in the marathon. Managers for the day were Tracy Cullen and Martina Whelan (Swimming), Paul Doyle (Athletics) and Clare Doyle (Debating).

Well done to the under-10 indoor soccer team which won silver medals as runners-up in the County Final. The team of Con Fraser, Dylan Martin, Sam Kirwan, Cathal Kelly, Ollie Treacy, Cathal Ennis, Nathan Doyle and Cian Doyle played their heart out against Glynn-Barntown to receive the Co silver medals. Thanks to their mentors Linda Martin, Ann Sullivan Doyle and James Murphy.

Hard luck to the boys under-12 soccer team who came up against a very good Castlebrid­ge team in their Co semifinal. Team members were Ben Asple, Lee Broaders, Dylan Carr, Mark Dawson, Tadhg Doyle, Harry Helps, Odhran Kehoe, Darragh Kirwan, Zack Levingston, Travis McCauley, Harvey Montague, Cillian Murphy, Oscar Redmond, Conor Rochford, Sam Twomey and Tiernan Walsh. Mentors were Jason Broaders and James Murphy.
