Coláiste an Átha awarded CAS Ambassador School
COLÁISTE an Átha Kilmuckridge is to receive the award of Ambassador School in the Cycle Against Suicide schools’ programme.
The programme was established in 2013 to encourage schools to become actively involved in mental health promotion, and rewards schools that go the extra mile.
As part of their efforts in the programme, representatives of Coláiste an Átha attended the Student Leaders’ Congress in UL in January. The school also completed several initiatives over the past two years to highlight the promotion of positive mental health and the slogan ‘It’s okay not to be okay’.
The school also received an amber flag and has a notice board and wall dedicated to positive slogans and helplines. The school regularly has guest speakers in to speak on issues such as bullying, cyber bulling, LGBTI, and giving healthy eating advice. It also had a Schools Go Orange day in March.
The school celebrated a Wellbeing Week with activities such as yoga. Transition year students took part in the Cycle Against Suicide completing the Thurles to Kilkenny route of 87km. The students trained over three months with two teachers Mr O’Hanlon and Mr Ryan.
The awards ceremony will be held on September 12 at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Principal Elizabeth Martin congratulated all the students and the staff for their efforts. She especially paid tribute to Carmel Maguire for coordinating all the events.
