TOP CLASS MUSICAL TALENTS

STUDENTS PUT ON A GREAT RECITAL

- By SARA GAHAN

STUDENTS displayed their musical talents to parents and staff at the annual award recital where members of the instrumental scheme at Enniscorthy Vocational College performed solos, duets and trios.

Kindly hosted by JCSP librarian Éadaoin Quinn in the school, second year student Conor Kenny began the concert with a traditional air on clarinet with ‘Star of the County Down’.

Continuing the theme of tradition, first year Darren Levingstone played ‘Boolavogue’ on flute, Rhian Tyrell from third year delivered a fine rendition of ‘Strangers on the Shore’, followed by Serena Casey, who played a beautiful Allegro from her recent exam selection.

Sixth year students Zara Kelly on violin and Megan Dobbs on cello were in the audience as special invited guests, having played with the orchestra since first year.

Awards were then handed out to the following students: Violin – Abby Walsh; Cello – Shannan Pitman Leacy; Double Bass – Kate Wilson; Clarinet – Rhian Tyrell Wright; Flute – Serena Casey.

The event concluded with a performance by third year country music singer Stacey Breen, who only last year, released her debut single ‘When I Look at You’ by Miley Cyrus.

In the Vocational College, instruments may be rented from the school and a nominal fee is paid each term, with students attending weekly lessons during the school day with an instrument tutor.

The instrument scheme has been a great success as the orchestra have performed in numerous events locally.
