Musicians hit the right note with bursary awards

-

Talented Wexford musicians Saidbh Russell and Bloco Garman Percussion Group received this year’s Recording Development Bursaries’ Award with Orchard Recording in partnership with the Arts Department of Wexford County Council.

The two successful candidates were giving the award as part of the Room to Record music technology programme initiated by the County Council in 2012 to enhance the opportunities available to Wexford’s emerging musical talent.

After a visit to a carnival weekend on the Isle of Wright nine years ago, Bloc Garman brought Brazilian beats to Wexford through an adult learners group by the VEC, under the tuition of Tom Duffy.

Saidbh from Ramsgrange is a singer and guitar player who covers pop, blues and classic songs with a twist. She has participated in various gigs and concerts throughout the years.

Paul Dowling from Orchard Recording said: ‘We had an even larger number of applicants this year, which shows us that the Wexford music scene is rich with up-and-coming talents, and is growing every year.’

The Recording Development Bursary has been devised to address the needs for a greater understanding of professional recording by working with emerging musicians.

Previous bursary winners includes Corner Boy from Killinick in Wexford who said the overall process has helped them ‘garner a greater understanding of the production, recording, editing and writing process.’

The Recoding Development Bursaries will run in the Orchard Recording Studio, Enniscorthy over the summer.
