THE 68th annual Bannow & Rathangan Show takes place on Thursday, July 13, with attractions, competitions and stalls for all the family to enjoy. The Bannow & Rathangan Show attracts around 15,000 people every year and it is a great family day out with lots to see and do. With over 200 trade stands and a huge array of wonderful food stalls showcasing the best of local produce and flavours, the event is one of the highlights on the social calendar in the county.
The Home Industry Section alone will have more than 1000 entries in home baking, crafts, flowers, photography, farm produce and photography classes. The national school’s competition is a wonderful display of art and crafts from children in the neighbouring schools.

The highlight event of the show and a spectacle well worth watching is the Galway Irish Crystal/Belleek China - Horse Sport Ireland 3-year-old Horse All-Ireland Final with a prize fund of €6,000 presented by the Irish Shows Association in conjunction with the Bannow & Rathangan Show and Horse Sport Ireland, featuring finalists who have qualified at shows all over the country during the year.
The final will start at 1.30 p.m. The winner will receive €800 and a Galway Irish Crystal Trophy and prizes go all the way down the line. The breeder of the champion will also receive a piece of Galway Irish Crystal or Belleek China.
For the 22nd consecutive year, the show committee are delighted to continue their association with Pettitt’s supermarkets in Wexford. Pettitt’s SuperValu sponsor the Pettitt’s Novice Show Jumping Championship which has a prize fund of €2,500. This competition is for 5 and 6-year-old horses and it attracts lots of local competitors making it a very exciting class. The Bannow & Rathangan Show committee are also delighted to have secured for the third year sponsorship for the National Grand Prix (Part of the National Grand Prix League) from Jim Bolger, racehorse trainer, Coolcullen, Co. Carlow. This competition is part of the National Grand Prix League and with such a valuable prize fund there is no doubt that the committee are delighted to host the semi final of the All Ireland Home Cook Championship 2017.
The qualifier from the Bannow and Rathangan Show will go forward to the All-Ireland final which will be held at Iverk Show in Piltown in August.
There is a full line-up of entertainment in the courtyard, with musical entertainment, a fashion show with fashion from Wal- lace’s of Wellingtonbridge and puppet shows for the children.
As usual we have all the horse and pony classes, in hand, riding and Show jumping, Dressage, Inter Hunt Steeplechase, driving classes and donkeys. Sheep Dog Trials begin at 12.30 p.m. and there is a Vintage Display at around 4 p.m. South East Radio live on the field. The dog show will take place at 2.30 p.m. with entries taken on the day.
