Organisers Conor Kehoe and Ross Tweedy said: ‘We have had men come along as newcomers a few years ago who are now a threat for the first place trophy. As the athletes have gotten stronger the weights have been increased. This year promises to be one of the biggest tests of strength and endurance the south east has seen in some time.’

Mr Kehoe said: ‘We are so grateful to be so welcomed by the Hook Lighthouse staff every year as they do their best to facilitate us. The competition takes a lot of hard work every year in the months leading up, Ross Tweedy and myself are very fortunate to have a good crew around us every year to help in run smoothly. We are also very grateful the enthusiastic crowds that show up year after year, so if people want a photo with any of our athletes, feel free to hang on after the show and get one taken.’

He said the athletes all have great time for the crowds that come out to support them.

‘Events will test every muscle in the body and the lungs won’t be left out either!’
