Victors join Kilross in first position
TAGHMON-CAMROSS 7-17 GER. O’HANRAHANS 2-4
TAGHMON-CAMROSS joined Kilross Gaels at the top of the table in Roinn 2A of the Enniscorthy Guardian Juvenile hurling championship by beating Geraldine O’Hanrahans in O’Kennedy Park on Thursday.
The new summit dwellers have been in good form of late. After losing their opening game of the season to Moguegeen Gaels, they have now strung three wins in a row together, saving their best showing for this encounter.
They were fantastic across the board, with their big players like Adam Williams, Martin Roche, Jack Murphy and Aaron Hanley all influential while the less heralded players in the squad also chipped in with big performances.
Poor Geraldines, with the bare 15, couldn’t have anticipated running into a steam-train of an opponent. In patches they themselves put some nice moves together, and scored a few of the better scores in the game, but they just didn’t have the depth of talent that their opponents boasted.
The visitors made their intentions known in a perfect opening quarter. A well-taken Cian Carroll point was the pick of the early scores but they further increased their lead when Jack Murphy pulled to the net in the tenth minute.
With Adam Sinnott on target twice, Taghmon-Camross extended their lead to 1-6 to nil after 15 minutes. The Geraldines probably had more of the play than the score suggests and they did get the goal their efforts warranted when the dangerous Cody Purcell flashed home after collecting Craig McDonald’s long ball.
McDonald and Andy Cash added further points as the half wore on but Aaron Hanley, Sinnott and Martin Roche replied at the other end to leave just seven between the sides at the interval (1-9 to 1-2).
Without scoring in the third quarter the hosts were competitive. However, at the other end Taghmon-Camross did enough to pull away. A slalom run and cracking finish by Adam Sinnott added his side’s second major and two more followed in quick succession from Hanley and Murphy.
At 4-12 to 1-2 down with 13 minutes to go, the Geraldines had a mini-revival. Pure determination allowed Adam Fenlon to net a deserved goal and points soon followed through Purcell and Tom Connors. However, Taghmon-Camross rubbed further salt into the wounds when their talented substitutes entered the fray.
Hanley scored two quick goals to complete his hat-trick while Kyle Barnwell netted after Cathal Murphy saw a shot saved. It was left to Liam Winters to put the finishing touches on the win with the last score of a super evening for Taghmon-Camross.
