Lemon Pete wins five from six

Huge turn-out for Wexford G.A.A. supporters’ outing

-

THERE WAS a huge turn-out on Thursday at Enniscorthy Dog Track for the July Club Wexford G.A.A. night, and there was a good ten-race programme for all to enjoy.

The last race of the night saw yet another fine win for the Patrick Roban (Enniscorthy)-owned Lemon Pete who was recording his 18th race win and has now won five of his last six starts and ran second in the other. He is clearly a dog to follow.

Again putting his strong early pace to good use in taking the lead, he ran on strongly to beat Airdown Rena in a best of the night 28.73.

The Red Mills A3/4 Tri-Distance first round got under way also, and Battstreet Chick was the quickest heat winner for Wexford owner Eugene McCabe. She led after a fine break and ran out a good winner in heat four, beating Tycoon Prince in a good 30.29 (550 yards).

The Nancy O’Connor-owned Whitefort Meg won heat three and went down to Waterford the following night to record a third straight win - another in top form at this moment.

Race three saw a change of luck for owner Thomas Byrne of Mulrankin when his Mulrankin Cain put in a strong finishing run to score in a time of 29.68.

There was a final success for Barntown owner George Roche at Shelbourne Park on Saturday when his Ballinaboola Net took the Boylesport dual distance A2 575/600 stake with a nice €1,000 winner’s prize. The nett winning time over the 600 yards was 32.78.

There was no success in Cork for Co. Wexford runners in the Laurels on Saturday as Toker Forest and Cosy Socks had no luck in running and did not make it through.
