WALLIS BIRD RECEIVED A RAPTUROUS RECEPTION WHEN SHE PLAYED AT THE INTIMATE PRESENTATION CENTRE IN ENNISCORTHY
WHILE ENNISCORTHY songstress Wallis Bird has enjoyed success all over the world from Germany to Japan, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of coming back for a show in her native Enniscorthy.
Having done very well particularly on the continent, it is perhaps somewhat apt that the Galbally native’s latest release is entitled Home and all roads led back to Enniscorthy on Saturday night as part of her Irish tour.
Having enjoyed a typical standing ovation from the Killarney Folk Festival the night before, Wallis arrived in Wexford and was greeted by quite a few familiar faces from her past in the form of family and friends as she took to the stage in what was an emotional night and her first show in Enniscorthy since the Strawberry Festival in 2014.
Before the show Wallis chatted with friends and even received a framed photo of herself and her band onstage at a recent gig in The National Opera House from local photographer Kenny Ruttledge before taking to the stage for a typically energetic performance.
Bird’s energy has always been infectious and this occasion was no different as she rattled off favourites from her debut album Spoons right up to latest offering Home. There was massive appreciation from an enthusiastic audience and it truly was a happy homecoming for Wallis who was beaming as she received yet another standing ovation.
The next day saw Wallis depart for Cork for another show and, although she gives her all every time she hits the stage, it’s probably fair to say that this “Travelling Bird” wouldn’t have minded sticking around the Cathedral town for a little while longer.
