Last Wednesday, July 12, our weekly competition was sponsored by Sid’s Diner. Thank you to Maria and Martina for your generosity. Good weather and beautiful playing conditions meant there was a great turn-out.

Results: 1, Eibhlin Kielthy (31), 38 points; 2, Liz Bennett (10), 37 points; 3, Ann Conway (14), 36 points (last nine); 4, Teenie Murphy (29), 36 points; 5, Mary Dungan (34), 35 points; Cat. 1, Ann Healy (17), 32 points; Cat. 2, Joanne Hartley (23), 34 points; Cat. 3, Joan Foley (32), 33 points.

On Wednesday, July 19, the competition is sponsored by Kathleen’s Hair Salon in South Street, New Ross. It is an 18-hole stableford with booking and open draws at the usual times.

Ladies, you have had notice about the club classic from August 10 to 13. Please do your best to promote this important fundraiser by inviting golfers from other clubs to come. Prizes are great and the entry fee is very competitive.

The Mary McKenna team came away with the spoils from Castlecomer where they scored a comprehensive victory over the Co. Kilkenny side. We now advance to the Leinster semis, facing The Heath up there before July 27, so exciting times lie ahead for the five pairs on the Mary McKenna team.

The trophy was launched in 2014 by Woodenbridge to celebrate Ireland’s greatest female golfer, Mary McKenna M.B.E. It is a Scotch foursomes matchplay format for ladies with teams from all over Ireland competing.

This prestigious event will culminate with the final match later in the season in Woodenbridge. Support will be very welcome and of course you can follow proceedings at home on the club app.

The Get into Golf ladies enjoyed another scramble on Wednesday on the fine sunny evening and the fitness presentation later in the clubhouse by Robbie Farrell who can provide clients with a customised fitness programme promised to add yards to your shots!

The scrambles will continue on Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. for those ladies who chose payment options for continuing their journey into golf.

Congratulations to Mary Dowling whose Leinster team was successful in the women’s and girls’ inter-provincials played in Shannon last week. You can read all about it and see photographs on Golfnet.
