S.B.R. runners were action in Ferns and in New Ross over the weekend. On Saturday night at the United Striders five-mile, S.B.R. was well represente­d and had some fine performanc­es.

Paul Gibbons continued a great run of races, finishing second overall in a strong field and breaking 28 minutes in the process. Tommy McElwaine continues to impress as well and was close behind Paul in under 29 minutes.

Eugene Doherty ran brilliantl­y, finishing in 32:20 and took age category honours as well.

On the women’s side, Ciara Bowe had a brilliant run, finishing fifth woman overall in 35:21 on the challengin­g course. Louise Kehoe also turned in a great performanc­e in 40:59.

At the Ferns Fun Run 5k on Sunday, S.B.R. made up a strong number of the finishers in the 5k race out the Stump Lane and back to the G.A.A. pitch. Paul Gibbons took top honours with Joe Lillis second.

On the women’s side, Belinda Kehoe continued an excellent time to win in 21:35 with Ciara Bowe not far back in 23:04 for second. Emma Morris made it an S.B.R. clean sweep for the women in 23:14 for third place.

In the family competitio­n, Christine and her daughter Orla took the first mother and daughter category. Well done everyone and it was a great job by the organisers Louise and Andrew Kehoe, stewards and everyone who helped out.
