A pleasant evening of music at the Athenaeum

-

On Saturday night last the Athenaeum hosted the first of its new monthly evenings of song and sound as MC Maura Flannery introduced the audience to some of Enniscorthy’s best known talents.

The elegant setting of the Athenaeum’s auditorium lent itself beautifully to the eclectic mix of wonderful sound from wellknown and gifted artists like Pat Donohoe, Aisling Williams and Terese Canavan Bolger along with Annie Gilpin, Noeleen Williams, Josie Flood, Tony McClean and of course the sultry tones of Maura herself adding to the speakeasy cabaret ambience of the event.

Those present were treated to old favourites like the Joy of Love, Midnight Special, Careless Love, Deportees, Me and Bobby Magee, Trouble Times, Song of Songs, Ride On and Without a Song, while Terese Canavan Bolger fabulously performed some of her musical specials including My Secret Love from Calamity Jane, and Aisling Williams gave us some Vera Lynn and Patsy Cline and on request gave exquisite renditions of Danny Boy and Raglan Road.

The evening was the brainchild of the charming MC and director of the Athenaeum Maura Flannery, who plans to host similiar evenings on a regular basis to increase usage of this iconic building at the centre of our town and to showcase some of Enniscorthy`s excellent performers.

With wine, nibbles and two hours of entertainment for only €7.50 this is excellent value. Watch this space and the Athenaeum’s Facebook page and website for details of the next in the series.

And don`t forget on Friday September 13 the Athenaeum will host a vintage tea morning with delectable edibles and amazing prizes and all are welcome.
