Byrne’s in Ireland’s top 100

- BY PÁDRAIG BYRNE

AN ENNISCORTHY shop has been named as one of the top 100 stores in Ireland by Retail Excellence Ireland. Byrne’s Bookshop on Court Street received confirmation last week that they had been selected from more than 700 stores nationwide to go on to the next stage of the Store of the Year.

Byrne’s, which saw massive growth over the years to become one of the country’s leading retailers of books, toys, nursery, schoolbooks and office supplies, is the only store in Enniscorthy to have been named in the top 100 and is one of just three in county Wexford.

The judging for the awards saw mystery shoppers visit the Enniscorthy store and see first hand the level of customer service that the staff at Byrne’s have to offer, before awarding them a rating of 94%.

‘We’re delighted,’ said Damian Byrne. ‘It’s a great recognition of all the hard work that the staff and the team puts in here. We’re looking forward to entering the next stage now and we’ll have a briefing on August 22 before making our submission and then the awards will be held in November.’

The next stage will see the shop examined from a number of different aspects such as layout, merchandising and much more. Damian and his team will be hopeful that they can progress even further and may even follow in the footsteps of Greenacres in Wexford and scoop the ultimate prize of Store of the Year in the Malton Hotel in Killarney on November 11.
