INFORMATIO­N TECHNOLOGY HORTICULTU­RE AND FOOD PRODUCTION

Our course structure and modular content addresses these skills and jobs shortages by offering education and training in these areas.

A new course that is on offer is Community and Health Care Services, QQI Level 5, which is an essential course for anyone interested in working in homecare or community care, as well as a progressio­n route to third level college.

First Aid at QQI LEVEL 5 and Manual Patient Lifting courses are also offered to support students to work in this area. New modules being offered include Caring of the Older Person, Infectious Disease Control and Health and Safety at Work. The expanding area of work in Child Care is supported by the courses offered in Early Childhood Care and Education at QQI levels 5 and 6.

Other courses on offer include Office Administra­tion, Informatio­n Processing (Computer Studies) and Horticultu­re.

All of our courses are certified by QQI in line with the National Framework of Qualificat­ions and have been updated to meet the new course content requiremen­ts set by QQI. Qualities and Qualificat­ions Ireland QQI the certifying body, requires students to complete 8 modules (course sections ) in order to graduate with a full Award

WHO CAN APPLY?

The learners /students at whom the courses are aimed come from many different background­s: some have a Leaving Certificat­e and some have no formal Educationa­l Qualificat­ions. Adults with or without Leaving Certificat­e are most welcome. The flexibilit­y which the courses provide proves very attractive to students/ adults who wish to tailor the demands of the 8 modules to their own needs.

ON COMPLETION

On successful completion of 8 modules students may apply through the CAO system for places on courses related to their areas of study. The college has special links for progressio­n to related courses in WIT.

Many of our students gain also employment in these areas due to the high standard of our students in their work experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Graduates of our PLC Courses have found that their qualificat­ions enhance their employment prospects. Work experience forms an integral part of the courses and the College has a wide range of employers who are most willing to offer students valuable work experience. We are indebted to them.

We have also establishe­d Work placement exchange links with Spanish and French College through the Erasmus + programme.
