Hockey club back in action

The thump of hockey balls hitting the backboard has returned to the Astro Active Centre in Enniscorthy after the summer break as Enniscorthy Hockey Club gears up for the new season.

While the adult teams have been working hard in pre-season training for almost a month now, the underage sides are only just back in action and hoping for another successful year. Last week four members – Nora McGinty, Ciara Kelly, Niamh Ogilvie and Leah Kidd – received word they had been selected for the South East under 16 interprovincial panel, which will compete in Belfast in October.

This comes after a summer when two members – Mick Jordan and Leah Chapman – earned national recognition when playing for Irish Masters sides in this years European Championships. The next generation of Enniscorthy players will be hoping to emulate their clubmates in the years to come.
