Woodsmen Club crowned All-Ireland horseshoe champs
CELEBRATIONS were had among the members from The Woodsmen Club, Bunclody who won both the All-Ireland Club Division 1 and the All-Ireland County Division 1 in horseshoe pitching.
It was the eighth time for the Woodsmen members to win the All-Ireland Club Division after they beat Dowley Duff from Kildare, who were the current champions, in the final.
The competition took place in Athy, Kildare where a total of three games were played between the two clubs.
‘The Woodsmen lost the first game at 21 – 18, but they came back and won the second game, 21 – 14,’ said PRO John Joe Byrne.
To be crowned champions, the Bunclody club needed 18 marks in the final game, which they managed by beating Dowley Duff with 21 – 8.
Meanwhile, members from the club also competed in the All-Ireland County Division 1 representing Wexford, where they beat Donegal 4 – 1 after a total of five games.
‘Liam Bond who is our manager also won the All-Ireland doubles with Tadgh Connelly and Michael Redmond won the All-Ireland singles,’ said John Joe.
The Woodsmen Club consists of Paddy Connors, Philip Mahon, Tom Connors, John Giltrap, Michael Redmond, Chris McDonald, and sub and manager Liam Bond.
