Man repays supermarke­t for passing fraudulent cheque

A MAN who passed a dodgy cheque at Martin’s supermarke­t in Tomnalosse­tt paid full compensati­on, the District Court was informed.

Sorin Petrovici (26) with an address at 15A Hospital Lane, Enniscorth­y was fined €100 by Judge Gerard Haughton on conviction for the fraud.

It was back in November of 2013 that the accused presented the cheque for €391 to the shop and was given cash to the full amount shown.

The cheque came from Slaney Farms as payment for work carried out by Petrovici but it had been cancelled as he told his employers that he had not received it.

He was described by his solicitor as a married man with two children who live in Italy.

A Romanian translator was present at the court sitting in Gorey to assist him follow proceeding­s.
