Enniscorthy is going to the dogs for Christmas Festival

-

The annual Christmas Festival fundraiser was launched at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track last Tuesday.

Once again Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce and Enniscorthy Business Association have teamed up with Wexford County Council to put together a fun night out at the dogs in aid of this year’s Enniscorthy Christmas Festival

The annual Christmas Fundraising night at the dogs takes place Thursday, September 21 with gates opening at 7 p.m. and the first race getting under way at 8 p.m.

All money raised on the night will go towards the Christmas Festival events and will help ensure that #EnniscorthyatChristmas is magical for both young and old.

Those attending can watch the greyhound racing from the bar or up close from the front of the stand. They will get to enjoy great food on the night in a relaxing atmosphere, sit back with colleagues and friends, relax and place a bet if they fancy it.

Enniscorthy District Manager, Liz Hore said the Christmas festival has gone from strength to strenth each year with this year’s festival looking set to be the best yet.

Maree Lyng, Chamber President said: ‘The Enniscorthy Christmas Festival is the result of a great co-operation between Wexford County Council, the chamber and the business association. The festival is going from strength to strength with a more adventurous Christmas programme year on year, providing our members with more opportunity. Where else would you find Santa in a real Castle? Last year at the Enniscorthy Switch On I believed in the magic of Christmas myself when I witnessed the children dancing under the snowflakes in the square. The happy faces of bright eyed children enjoying the build up to Christmas Day is a joy to behold.’

Chief Executive of Enniscorthy & District Chamber, Catriona Murphy said this is a great night out for business owners and managers to enjoy a staff night out.

‘Yet again this year we have many businesses supporting by sponsoring a race and businesses can also ‘Own a Trap’. Naming a trap can add a be a bit of banter for the businesses and staff to follow their trap on the night in a race on the night. We hope for the business community will come together yet again and reach our target of €20,000 for Enniscorthy at Christmas.’

Damian Byrne of Enniscorthy Business Association said he hopes that both the business and local community turn out in large numbers to support the fundraiser.

‘The night at the dogs which takes place this Thursday is a very important fundraiser for us as it funds a lot of the Christmas activities which help promote Enniscorthy as a shopping and dining destination. All contributions are extremely welcome.’

Chairman of the fundraising committee Myles Roban said this is the third year of the night at the dogs in aid of the Christmas festival.

‘It is going very well for us and it helps fund the switching on of the lights, the activities in the castle and other Christmas events. It is a great night for businesses and we would encourage everyone to come along and have a great night.’

All will be welcomed to get dressed up on the night and be in with a chance to win a voucher from Put a Bow on It for the best dressed lady and voucher from Eric Barron’s Menswear for the best dressed gentleman.

The Christmas Festival will feature Santa’s Enchanted Castle from November 26 to December 23. Returning on Wednesday, November 22, are Greystones brothers, David and Stephen Flynn of The Happy Pear. This cookery demonstration is sponsored by Pettitt’s SuperValu. Enniscorthy Gift Vouchers are available to purchase at www. santasenchantedcastle.ie
